A Response To “Robert Kagan on Why the World Needs America”
Well Rod.... if you are just an average rate of change WSJ reader your salary is $135K and at that rate, even here in Manhattan, one can rest easy knowing they can afford 1) a roof, 2) plus food, 3) a little savings, 4) membership dues to organizations for which to network and keep that career path moving ahead no matter what one's age... I could create a much longer list, but I think the point is clear enough.
So, when one is not making the average More
Views On “Heard on the Street: Hewlett Sends PCs Packing”
In my opinion, the PC+WebOS+HP brand was THE product that set the company vision apart from it's competitors. Now after 49 days of heavily promoting it they kill it. And, from what I can tell, it's because this CEO just doesn't do well in the consumer sector.....so he decides to take on IBM. Not only that but the tells any suitors who might want to buy the PC+WebOS+HP brand he intends to kill it, letting everybody know it's available for a song. More
My Analysis On “Obama Signs Landmark Health Bill”
After watching the signing ceremony, it was plain to me that the Dems see this in civil rights/moral terms: their march to the capital, their worship of the President, their reference to a nearly 100 year effort to see this bill pass had all the flavors of something that those who believe in a moral victory over evil would engage in.
I see this mainly in economic terms and must ask the question: is it morally wrong right to pass a bill that can't More
Opinion On “Rebels Plan U.N. Talks”
I don't agree. Initially the world will be a bit more unstable until there is clear definition as to whether a stable government will emerge or chaos like we have in Egypt.
Oil has fallen but gas has not. And gold is a suckers game of musical chairs that is starting a home business to unravel. Libya's oil has been out of the equation for a while.
I agree it is all relevant. I just don't understand why it all has to be on the home page. Build a Libya More
My Analysis On “Obama and Boehner Play Gold in Debt Talks’ Shadow”
The problem is not that Obama and Boehner are playing golf together. The problem is they don't spend enough time outside work relationships together.
The same is especially true for other members of Congress, and specifically the Senate. Senators from both party's used to spend a significant amount of time mingling in evening gatherings, in the Senate cafeteria for lunch, and other after work venues. This provided a time to build at least respectful More
My Take On “Teacher Training Is Panned”
I agree with you to a point, but I've seen many brilliant people who would be abysmal educators. Part of the didactic/pedagogical theory courses is to weed out those who wouldn't be good educators and improve the skills of those individuals who do have those innate abilities. Frankly, someone like Stephen Hawking would be a terrible high school math/physics teacher despite having a mastery of subjects way beyond the reach of the average high school More
My Take On “Sharp President Pushes Solar Power in Japan’s Nuclear Wake”
Careful. Most grid-tie inverters shut down with a loss of power to i've got the power grid. This is to protect the line worker in the event of a power outage (to insure I am not pumping power back on the grid when he puts a wrench on the line).
I also have lockable, tag-able AC and DC disconnects on both sides of the inverter. When the power company comes to work on the local power, they will lock out my (and any other) PV system. I can't generate More
Thoughts On “Dan Senor: Why Obama Is Losing the Jewish Vote”
Obama's views are, indeed, similar to those of European liberals (who comprise the majority of Europeans). But in the US, liberals represent just 20% of the population (we can be thnakful for that). The liberal view of Israel (and the includes the view of many Jewish Americans), is that Israel is at fault for the lack of resolution in the Israel-Palestinian conflict resolution strategies. American liberals also blame the US for most conflicts where More
A Commentary On “Jobs Fans React: ‘We Will Miss You Steve’”
Comments about who Jobs most resembled in his business and technological accomplishments usually point how to be successful in life Thomas Edison. I don't agree. Edison was not as successful a businessman as Jobs by any means. And Jobs was not the hands-on inventor that Edison was. Both were great visionaries of course. So who most closely resembles Jobs? You need to identify a visionary, an outstanding business person, and someone who had enough More
My Analysis On “Firms Hold Fast to Snail Mail Marketing”
This is where balancing funds comes into play, as a business owner we know it all too well. Do you stick with this method...even though its chewing up your budget. Or take the email route to save some cash. While past ways of direct marketing can still open doors to leads, consumers are spending more time online, albeit spending less at the moment, but our costs for mailings are not really going down. You can't ignore social media and its effects More
